Another guitarist who is really hitting his prime is Ken Navarro. On In My Wildest Dreams (Positive), Navarro makes sounds so joyous it's near impossible not to be mentally lifted by the lyrical hooks sprightly picking. Navarro's acoustic has a distinct sound, which you hear right away on the title track and the gorgeous "Dancing With Melissa," which is so catchy you'll be humming along. Navarro is a pro who knows how to mix it up, alternating tempos and instruments, equally appealing on electric although acoustic is obviously preferred. And it doesn't hurt to have someone like Eric Marienthal on sax behind you. Navarro is an artist who can be counted on to provide quality smooth jazz CD after CD; not only that, every track seems crafted to bring maximum enjoyment, with no filler. Smooth grade: A.
